FRIANT, Calif., June 11 /PRNewswire/ — Raul ‘The Cobra’ Martinez, the current IBA Bantamweight Champion drops down to 115 lbs. and brings his four-year unbeaten career to Table Mountain casino on July 25 in search of the IBA World Junior Bantamweight Championship. He will be facing the wily Isidro ‘Chino’ Garcia, a seasoned veteran stepping up to 115 lbs. ‘Chino’, a Fresno fan favorite, is looking to regain the championship form he showed at Table Mountain casino in a bloody April, 2007 fight where he pummeled Cesar Lopez to win the IBA Featherweight Championship with relentless body shots and accurate punches to the head.
San Antonio’s Martinez has demonstrated a dazzling style in his unbeaten 22 fight, 13 knockout career. He has quickly risen up the ranks as a skillful boxer-puncher with a warrior’s willingness to take on all comers since turning pro in 2004. Top Rank-promoted, ‘The Cobra’ is an active fighter who has already notched two victories in 2008, winning by decision over former world title challenger Alex Baba in January, and then out-pointing Benjamin Garcia in February for the IBA bantamweight crown.
‘Chino’ Garcia (25-4-2, 8 KOs) is a former champion eager to get back to the top. Born in Guerrero, Mexico, Garcia is hailed internationally for the night in 1999 when he won the WBO world flyweight championship. Settling into his seat as a spectator of the vacant title bout between Jose Lopez and Alejandro Montiel, Garcia soon found out that Montiel had withdrawn from the fight just hours before. So, using a borrowed mouthpiece and trunks, Garcia stepped up to the plate and not only fought Lopez, but decisioned him decisively over 12 rounds. Garcia defended his title once before losing it to Fernando Montiel in December of 2000, and would later take a lengthy break from the ring. He returned to the ring in 2007 and has since won three out of four bouts, including the championship win at Table Mountain casino over Cesar Lopez that earned him the IBA flyweight crown. Now he looks to add the IBA’s 115-pound crown to his trophy case.
Also featured on the July 25th five-bout card will be Garcia’s stablemate, highly-touted welterweight prospect Aaron Martinez. Martinez, a talented Mexico City native now making his home in East Los Angeles, will put his perfect 8-0 (3 KOs) record on the line against an opponent to be announced.
Fresno amateur Jorge Magallanes, now training at Aleman’s Boxing Gym in Fresno, has 20 amateur wins as a featherweight and will be making his hometown pro debut on the card.
Tickets, priced from $25 to $55 go on sale June 23 at the main casino cage and online at . Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Fights begin at 7:00 p.m.
